Mizuhiki

Mizuhiki is a decorative cord used on engagement gifts and gift envelopes, as well as on wrapping paper for presents. It is made by twisting thin strips of paper together and wrapping thread or film around them. When tied, it serves as a symbol that the package has not been opened. It also carries the meaning of strongly binding the giver and the recipient together.

The Meaning of the Types of knot and the Colours

The types of knot and the colours of the cords also carries significance.

In tradition, the “butterfly knot (open-ending)” is used for occasions that are meant to recur, such as giving a birth, celebrations of growth, and other life milestones. On the other hand, the “fixed knot (closed-ending)” is used for events that are intended to be one-time occurrences, such as weddings, funerals, times of mourning, illness, or disasters.

Nowadays, there are variety of colours are produced, and traditionally each colour has different meaning and purpose of its use.

Gold and silver cords are regarded as the highest classed prestige, used for celebrations such as engagement, wedding, and longevity.
White and red contain the meaning of repelling evils, used for celebrations in general.
Black is generally used for mourning events.

My products mostly use golden and silver colour for accessories, so that you wear the elegance of the highest-class in daily life.
